MR. SAMUEL ROOSEVELT KERSEY, affectionately called “Bro Kersey”, son of the late Alexander Kersey and Maggie Davis Kersey was born November 9, 1932 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life June 22, 2018 in VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA.  Three of his siblings preceded him in death: Lewis, Rural and Jean Kersey.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Penuel RZUA Church, Palmer Springs, VA.

Samuel attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools.  He was later drafted December 3, 1953 into the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge on December 2, 1955.   He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve until June 25, 1962.

On May 5, 1957 Samuel was joined in holy matrimony to Virginia Lucille King.

“Bro Kersey” was an avid sports fan for the Dallas Cowboys. He also perfected the dance called “The Shuffle.”  He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Virginia, of the home; two sisters- Annie (Jimmy) Frazier, Richmond, VA and Linda Evans, South Hill, VA; three brothers- Stoney Kersey, Richmond, VA; George (Elsie Louise) Kersey, South Hill, VA and Leon (Doris) Kersey, Harlem, GA; two sisters-in-law, Lottie Kersey, Richmond, VA and Rosa Beard, Newark, NJ; two brothers-in-law, John Richard King, South Hill, VA and Thomas King, Marietta, GA; God-daughter, Ruby King-Gregory; God-son, Steve Foster, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

    We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
