At an early age he was baptized and joined Roanoke Zion RZUA Church, Bracey, VA.

He attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and continued his education in the study of music and earned his degree.

Willie was married to Barbara Boyd Valentine for 60 years, and they were blessed with eight children.  After marriage in earlier years he attended St. Stephens RZUA Church with his wife.  Willie loved to read and was an avid spiritual reader.  He knew the word of God and could quote scriptures.  He was a lifelong learner, kept abreast of current events, and was a history buff.

Willie shared his love of music by instructing many.  He was a member of local bands for many years, enjoyed practicing and traveling to play on stage and he recorded the song“Goodbye My Love”.  Heplayed many instrumentshis favorite was the lead guitar.  Willie also enjoyed sharing the story of his “love” for music- stating, “I remember hearing music while in my mother’s womb; I heard music “in my head,” and music was “food to my soul.”  He was a true “artist” in every sense of the word.

He was employed as a truck driver for Massey Concrete Company, Richmond, VA until his retirement.

Willie was a devoted husband and father.  He was a wonderful and loving person who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He loved his family and they loved him.  Each of his grandchildren and great grands he gave a nickname.  Willie had a love for animals and his pets reciprocated.  Gismo (his cat) would “cry like a baby” whenever he would leave home for an extended period of time and still does.

Willie enjoyed Holidays with his loving family and would gather all the kids to sing songs of holiday cheer.

Willie leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Barbara of the home; five daughters- Nannie (William) Brooks, Eunice Johnson, Odessa (Randy) Coleman, Valencia Valentine (Lewis), and Mary (LaRicky) Smith; three sons- Willie Jr., (Shantelle); Vaughn (Marjorie); and Bruce Christopher (Audrey) Valentine; just like a son- Lloyd Johnson; two grandchildren he reared- Aubrey and Marcus Smith; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Harris, Catherine Hawkins, Wilhemenia (Nando) Standi and Judy King; brothers-in-law, Max and Carwell Boyd; extended family- Ease Pennington Bridgefort and family and Charles Piluso and family, and Winnie Pendergrass and family; devoted friends- Raymond Allen, T. We are saddened to know you are grieving the recent loss of your loved one. You can find comfort in the words found in Psalms 34:18 which reads: “ Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our loving God cares about us and is ready to bring us comfort if we allow him (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise. See and imagine yourself welcoming back to life your dear loved one?
