MR. RUSSELL GERALD SALLIE, son of the late Russell Lee and Emma Hatcher Sallie was born November 15, 1956 in Mecklenburg County, VA.  On Friday, August 10, 2018 he stepped across the chasm from life into eternal life after a brief illness.  “Junie” as he was lovingly called was the sixth child of seven siblings.  He was also preceded in death by one sister- Evelyn Nancy Jackson and two brothers- Ralph Garland Evans and Ernest Lee Sallie.

Russell was educated in the Mecklenburg County Public School System and had a far reaching career of five decades in Virginia as well.

It is said that “everyone communicates, few connect.”  Yet, Junie had mastered this principle which is why he was loved and respected by many.  Junie not only connected with people, but he was one with God’s creation.  He loved nature!  Junie was a passionate farmer and master fisherman.  Moreover, it brought him joy to cook on the grill, as well as gather produce and other goods to be shared with his family and friends.

Above all else, Junie loved his family.  He was a devoted brother who always found the time to call his siblings and his Aunt Florence.  Also, it gave him great pride in having over twenty nieces and nephews in addition to countless great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces & nephews.

Russell leaves to mourn three sisters- Ruby Ardell (Lawrence) Fields, Newark, NJ; Virginia C. Evans, Willingboro, NJ and Rosalind M. Douglas, Hinesville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Eva Evans and Yvonne Sallie; aunt- Florence Merritt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
