No fear in life no fear in death, when I finally take that last breath, I let my earthy possessions go, Getting ready to let my spirit flow….
WHEREAS, in the providence of God. He has brought to a close the life of:
Mr. Eddie Evans Jr. (83) known as Poor Boy , Georgia was born January 7, 1935. Eddie was the oldest of six (6) children born to the late Eddie Evans and Lucille Judge Evans, in Lowndes County Georgia.
Eddie at a young age joined The Greater Saint Peter A.M.E. Church is now as the St. Peter Methodist Church. of Valdosta, where he worshiped. Eddie was educated in the Valdosta City School System, where he graduate from Dasher High School, after His graduation he attended Tuskegee University in Alabama after several years of study, he enlisted in the U,S. Marines as a machine guns technician serving three (3) years of honorable duty, before returning to Valdosta, Georgia.
Employed by Citizen & Southern Bank for over twenty (20) years, he establishes his business as an interpreter with a Cleaning Business. Later employed by the Valdosta City School as a Bus Driver for twenty one (21) years, after retiring from bus driving he operated the Eddie And Betty Food Mart. Eddie spent most of his time caring for his business and keeping up with his Children and Grand-children, but he loves his involvement with his church. Eddie held several positions within the church, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Trustee Board, the Steward Board, Sons of Allen, Board of Director, mens Choir and the Planning Committee. He was a member of the 100 Black Mens of Valdosta, the Masonic Lodge, others community organization and Committee.
Eddie leaves to morn his passing three (3) children;. Wanda Anita Sims, Gretchen Denise Evans both of Odenton Maryland, from his union with Annie T Kelly. Melissa Renee Crawford (Larry) from the late Betty Godfrey of Valdosta and a step-daughter Merita L. Brown from a later marriage to Bessie Mae Brown-Evans of Valdosta. Two siblings Doris Foy of Valdosta and Gloria (Tony) Evans-Ford of Albany, GA, and one Sister-in-Law Joyce Evans of Valdosta, GA. Nine(9) grandchildren, eleven (11) great grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, relatives and friends.
He said goodbye to troubles of this world on Thursday, August 30, 2018.
Celebrations of Life Services of a life well lived will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 am from St. Peter Methodist Church - 500 East Gordon Street, Valdosta Georgia, Pastor Anthony Payne, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.
