    The legacy of Jo Ann Phillips started on August 11, 1951 in Brooks County, Georgia to the late Russell Sinclair Phillips Sr. and Mary Frances Blankumsee-Phillips.  Jo Ann graduated from Washington Street High School in Brooks County, where she was crowned Miss Homecoming Queen in 1969.  Immediately following high school she continued her education at Valdosta Technical College where she received a degree in Medical Administrative Assistance.  Jo Ann was a dedicated worker at South Georgia Medical Center for over thirty years as a Medical Ward Clerk.  Jo Ann decided to devote her life to Christ at a young age when she was baptized under the leadership of the Laurel Street Church of Christ and a servant to the Shumate Street Church of Christ of Quitman, Georgia.  Sister Jo Ann was a current member of The Rose City Church of Christ of Thomasville, Georgia.   

Three brothers precede her in death, Russell S. Phillips Jr., Jack B. Phillips, and Mark A. Phillips. 

On September 9th, 2014, Sister Jo Ann Phillips departed this earthly life. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughter Tarajsha Thomas, two sisters: Angela Christian and Arnetta Barkley both of Quitman, GA, three brothers, William Henry (Java), Columbus, GA; Clay Lee (Essie), Thomasville, GA; Mike A., Atlanta, GA, one special brother Calvin (Linda) Hunter, Jacksonville, FL; and two sister-in-laws Cora Phillips of Thomasville, GA and Clementine Phillips of Quitman, GA; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends. 

Funeral Service for Sis. Jo Ann Phillips will be held Saturday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Shumate Street Church of Christ in Quitman, GA, Bro. Tony Herring, Sr., Minister/Presiding and Bro. Clay Lee Phillips: Burial: North End Cemetery, Quitman, GA.

    To the family of Jo Ann,I want first to say how sorry I am about the lost of such a wonderful person.I knew her from working at SGMC with her and she was the same sweet ,smiling self all the time even when she did not feel well.She showed her love for God ,family,and others all the time.It was enjoyable to see her on the 11 -7 shift .I have not seen her in years but I never forgot her sweetness and kindness.May your hearts be comfort and at peace through our Savior Jesus Christ.
