His Life’s Journey …

Derrick’s journey began on a lovely fall day, November 26, 1973; that is when a beautiful, bouncing baby boy with perfect curly locks was born.  He was a quiet soul, with a lively spirit that always greeted family and friends with a “boyish” grin and a soft chuckle.  He was a young man with an old man’s spirit who enjoyed listening to gospel and “Oldie Goldie” music and he had a great sense of humor.  He surrounded himself with many family and friends who fondly referred to him by nicknames such as “Wasp,” “Skillet,” “Slim,” and “Easy.”

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Beulah Hill M.B. Church.  He was a seeker of knowledge.  Derrick graduated from Brooks County High School and furthered his education at Albany State University, Thomas University, and Southwest Georgia Technical College.
Derrick enjoyed working with his hands and was employed by J.S. Christian Construction Company and Christian Brothers Farm.  He believed in being punctual.  His motto was “If you are early, you are on time, if you are on time, you are late.”  He was ALWAYS early for all his appointments and made sure you were too.

His loving memories will be cherished by his family.  Derrick was loved by his Mother “Cal”; his father John Waters (deceased) and Joe Glass; his brothers Kendrick (Darryka) Decatur, GA and Alex (Jasmine) Valdosta, GA; sister Jemeka, Thomasville, GA; Grandparents John & Joan Waters, Quitman, GA; a special great-uncle Kenneth Sneed, Thomasville, GA; a special niece, Ava Marie and a loving nephew Aydin, Valdosta, GA; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

His journey ended on a lovely fall day, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, when Derrick transitioned to heaven to sit at the “Welcome Table” and to feast on milk and honey with his beloved Grandmother “Muh” Annie Bell Christian whom he loved so dearly.

My sincere condolences to the family at this time of great sorrow. So sorry for your loss. I know your hearts are very heavy right now. Derrick was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Though it's hard to cope with his passing and the pain seems unbearable, please remember you are not alone, for Psalms 46:1 promises, "God is near to those broken at heart; and those crushed in spirit he saves. Pray to Him for strength. Weep to Him when there are no words. May God's promise that one day you will see Derrick again give you hope and bring you peace for Christ assured us, "I Am The Resurrection and The Life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, Will Come To Life." (John 11:25) With deepest sympathy.
