Today we celebrate the home going of our loved one, Troy Boyd Sr.
Troy Sr. was born October 31, 1961 in Chicago, IL to the loving parents of Ella Ruth Boyd and William Wilbon. Troy Sr. was raised on the South Side of Chicago (Tuley Park District) in which he attended and graduated from Burnside Scholastic Academy, Corliss High School and Chicago State University. Troy Sr. worked in the healthcare industry for more than two decades, educating and serving in this field throughout the Chicagoland area, Boston and Texas.
Troy Sr. married Palmaline King in December 1985. To this union was born four beautiful children, 2 boys and 2 girls- his sons, Troy Boyd Jr. and William Travis Boyd; and daughters Amanda Brittany Boyd and Naomi Diavian Denise Boyd. Troy Sr. was an excellent father to his children whom he loved, cherished and supported. He attended every birthday celebration, graduation, holiday, special occasion and event. He never missed an opportunity to impart love, wisdom and knowledge into each one of them. He was tremendously of all his children and often referred to them as his “greatest accomplishments”.
After his love for family, there were two things Troy Sr. was truly passionate about: sports and helping young people. These two passions intersected for Troy Sr. as he served as a Board Member of the Calumet City Civic League for over a decade. During that time, he coached and managed basketball and baseball leagues for children ages 5-14. His enthusiasm and compassion impacted the lives of countless youth in the South Suburban area. Troy Sr. supported all of his children-and grandchildren- in their sporting endeavors, ensuring they were both mentally and physically prepared. In addition to his work in youth sports, Troy Sr. also served as a mentor to young people. He was not only a dad to his biological children; he was a dad to so many other young men and women, as well.
Troy Sr. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in July of 1996 at New Christian Valley M. B. Church-now known as Valley Kingdom Ministries International. He loved the Lord until he was called home on March 28, 2015. He made his transition as he lived his life, surrounded by his loving family.
Troy Sr. touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, always maintaining his trademark sense of humor. Troy leaves cherished moments with his parents, Ella Ruth Boyd and William Wilbon, half-sister Fahizah Alim (Known as Billie) from Sacremento, CA; his children Troy Jr (Khristina); William (Quinisha); Amanda (James); and Naomi; his grandchildren whom he simply adored; Janyla, William Jr., Armani, and Isabella; special cousins Fred Boyd, Deanna Boyd, Michael Boyd, Uncle Charles, Aunt Shirley Boyd and Aunt Mae Willie, and a host of cousins, family and friends.
