George was a great man and was truly a blessing to his family, friends, co-workers, and to anyone who crossed his path.

George will be missed but never forgotten. Although, we still can’t believe it is real, we love him forever and always.

He has taught us that God doesn’t make mistakes and we know he is in the loving hands of our Heavenly Father…this is a part of God‘s divine plan. We will miss his keen insight, humor, guidance, and his loving and caring spirit! 

“A Time to be Born”
Bro. George Brown, Jr. was born December 5, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia. He was the first of five children born to the late George Brown, Sr. and Dora Brown. 

“A Time to Serve God”
At an early age, he received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Thomasville, Georgia. He was a faithful member and dedicated Class Leader.

“A Time for Training”
George was educated in the Thomas County School System. He graduated from Douglass High School in Thomasville, Georgia, Class of 1965. He also attended Thomas County Community College. 

“A Time to Work”
George worked at Flowers Baking Company. He also worked and retired from Southwestern State Hospital, where he worked as an activity therapist. He also drove the bus for Head Start. In addition, he served time in the Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard.  

“A Time to be Married”
He was married to Johnnie Hollis Brown from Dixie, Georgia on Jan 12, 1980. George has four children: Anthony Brown Sr., Monica Brown Little, George Rodney Brown, and Sandi Brown.  

“A Time to Serve and Volunteer”
George was affiliated with numerous organizations: S.P. Jones Lodge #118 - Past Master and Gold Card Member; American Beauty Chapter #214 Order of the Eastern Star (OES); Past Worthy Patron; Past District Patron of Thomasville District #10; Grand Trustee Emeritus for OES for Jurisdiction of Georgia Prince Hall Affiliation; Past Board Member of the Thomasville YMCA; Conference and District Board of Trustees; Sons of Allen; Lay Organization; Class Leader and Past Steward at St. Mark A.M.E. Church; Voters Registration Coordinator for the Thomasville-Bainbridge District; 2nd Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party; Life Member of Douglass High School Alumni Association; Life Member of NAACP Thomasville Branch; Past Coach; Past Referee; Georgia Athletic Officials’ Association; Albany Consistory #176; Ossipe Temple #65 Shriners; 33o Scottish Rite Mason; 33o United Supreme Council; Georgia Special Olympics Area 14 Committee; Georgia Special Olympics Bowling Coach; American Legion Post #519; and Trustee of the Crossroad Elementary School.  

“A Time to Die”
On Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Dixie, Georgia, George was called home by God. He is resting eternally with the Lord. George was a friend to everyone and touched the lives of so many people.

 “A Time to Mourn”
He was preceded in death by his father and mother George Brown, Sr. and Dora Brown of Thomasville, GA. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Johnnie Hollis Brown of Dixie, GA; four children Anthony Brown, Sr. (Barbara) of Macon, GA; Monica Brown Little (Jerome) of Byron, GA; George Rodney Brown (LaToya) of Kennesaw, GA; and Sandi Brown of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren Amber Brown, Anthony Brown, Jr., and Camden Brown; two sisters Patricia Ann Morand of Gainesville, FL and Vivian Ware (Larry) of Bainbridge, GA; two brothers Ralph Brown of Thomasville, GA and Steve Brown (Denise) of Thomasville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and a large group of friends.

Funeral Service for George Brown, Jr will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Disciples of Jesus Ministries, 228 Augusta Ave, Thomasville, Georgia. Burial: Peaceful Rest Cemetery, Thomasville, Georgia.

Public Viewing: 12:00-8:00 PM – Thursday, September 10, 2015 and 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Friday, September 11, 2015 in the BTW Chapel.

Family Visitation: 7:00-9:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Mark AME Church, 700 Lester Street, Thomasville, Georgia

    To Mrs. Johnnie Brown and Children,Mr. George was a very dear friend to me and will be greatly missed in the coming day's of my life .He was a very educated man in more ways than one,as I got to know him and we talked on the phone mostly every week I began to want to bond with him more.Just want his family to no that he touch my life in many way's and will forever be missed by me.To the family from Robert and Tangela Wallace we are praying that God gives strength to go on .

    I will missed bro. George at the Grand Lodge session sitting down talking while people passed by. This past session Sister Brown asked me to take pictures of them and send to her. I am glad I did what she asked and I kept a copy of the same.Now I have pic of my brother George.I pray that God continues to shine on your family.Nathaniel Thomas and family.

    George touched my life with his devotion to the Thomas County Food Bank . He was a great supporter and a good friend. He always had a smile . I never saw him but what he had a hug and an encouraging word. He truly exemplified the meaning of a fine Christian man. I thank God for people like George.
