Laben T. Sitgraves ROCK HILL - Laben Thomas Sitgraves was born February 5, 1941, in York County, S.C.

He was the son of the late Thomas David and Mattie Brown Sitgraves. Laben (L.T.) was educated in the public schools of Cleveland, Ohio, Phila-delphia, Penn., Plainfield, N.J. and Rock Hill, S.C. He graduated from Emmett Scott High School, Class of 1958.

Laben was employed with the City of New York and retired in 1986 after 22 years of faithful service. Laben received numerous awards and accommodations during his years working with the City of New York. He received a Certificate of Achievement for participating in the semi-finals of the annual Motor Rodeo in 1977. Laben was also honored and recommended for the Heroism Award for rescuing nine children from a Harlem tenement fire. Laben met Ella Phillips and they were united in holy matrimony on May 19, 1985. Laben and Ella were soulmates. Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Ella P. Sitgraves; two daughters, April Sit-graves of New York, N.Y. and Dana Lynn Schopflin (Chris) of Webster Groves, Mo.; two sons, Laben Bell (Alicia) of Deer Park, N.Y. and Terrance Bell (Lisa) of Rock Hill, S.C.; one sister, Janette Simpson (George) of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Lawrence Sitgraves (Susan) of Rock Hill, S.C.; two granddaughters, Milisa Bell of Rock Hill, S.C. and Alexis Bell of Deer Park, N.Y.; two aunts, Bessie Pitts of Clover, S.C. and Helen Lathan of Durham, N.C.; one uncle, J. C. Brown of Clover, S.C.; one goddaughter, Leah Cash of Bronx, N.Y.; two special friends, Ingrid Boderick of Charlotte, N.C. and Ericka Barber of Decatur, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Clemons-McCray Funeral Home.'
