Funeral services for George Harley Sr., 89, of 3762 Longleaf Forest Lane, Jacksonville, Florida formally of Allendale will be held 11:00 Friday, March 18, 2016 at St Luke Baptist Church Fairfax, SC with Reverend Donald Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in First Estill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. George Anderson Harley, Sr. was born on June 30, 1926 to the late Benjamin and Hattie Harley in Estill, South Carolina.

He received his education from Allendale County Schools and Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. He served in the United States Army Air Force for 1944-1946, during World War II and received Honorable Discharge. George worked with the United States Postal Service and retired after 35 years of service.  He also worked part-time with Pinkerton Security Service.  In 1963, he marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, DC for his “I Have a Dream” speech.

George departed this life on Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Hattie Harley; and 12 siblings.

George leaves to cherish is fond memories, his children: Leon Harden of Allendale, SC; Willette Harley of Queens, NY and George (Krystal) Harley, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter-in-law, Jettie Harden; nine grandchildren: Leslie, Tiffany, Carlos (Amanda), Levi, Angela, Alexis, Shantavia, Genovia, and Uriel; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including Joseph Alston, Robert Carter, and Herbert Howard.

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 1- 7 pm.

Friends may call at the residence of his son, Leon Harden at 438 Crescent Drive Allendale or at the funeral home
