Funeral services for Beatrice Washington Lee, 88, of 12511 Marleigh Drive Bowie, Maryland formally of  Blackville, SC will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Blackville, SC with Reverend John Holston officiating.  Burial will follow in Hope Memorial Park Barnwell, SC.  

She passed away on Monday July 11, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Beatrice Washington Lee affectionately known as “Ms.Bea”, was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on March 4, 1928 to the late Abraham James and Juruther Issac She was raised by  Brooks Heyward, Sr. and the late Juruther Heyward.
 
She was educated in the Orangeburg County Public Schools and was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.  
 
“Bea” was employed with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing until her retirement.  She was an avid bowler and had a great love for people which led to many calling her “Mamma”. 
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hammond Lee; daughter, Rozella Garner; and brothers, A.B. Heyward, Leroy James, Willie James, AB James and Lewis James.
 
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her son, Ezelle (Wendy) Wooden of Bowie, MD; six brothers: Brooks Heyward, Mitchell Heyward, and Woodrow Heyward all of Greenville, SC, Abraham Heyward of Blackville, SC, Lionell James Jr. and Ferris James all of South Carolina; five sisters: Daisy Baxter of Blackville, SC, Lucille Jordan of Queens, NY, Dorothy Michelle Heyward of Greenville, SC, Eartha James, and Carrie Lee James all of South Carolina; five grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; an a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
 

Visitation will be on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home.
